Day 22 (Colour Printing) Thursday 20th October 2011

Thursday 20th October 2011 10am Colour printing with Riikka

After an introduction to the facility the basics of colour print development were explained.

The main controls of the enlarger were made familiar to us, specifically the colour adjusting controls.
We made an initial wedge step test using  5 second exposures with the controls set at: Cyan 0, Magenta 60, and yellow 80.

My initial wedge test was rather dark and Riikka advised I opened the lens up one stop, before making a second test. Once this was made we agreed the exposure time of 25 seconds. Cyan is to always be left at Zero with only the Magenta and Yellow being adjusted as per the idiot guides posted on the walls. Further strips and assessments were made until the colour balance was considered to be correct enough to do a full size print. With a slight trace of a red hue Rikka advised adding a further two seconds to the exposure time and taking the Magenta and Yellow back a fraction (from Magenta 75, Yellow 105, to Magenta 74, Yellow 104). The paper I used wasn't as new as everyone Else's, which obviously makes the process harder. But the results were pleasing. Based on the fact my paper wasn't brand new we dialed in a further +3 on the Magenta to bring the final settings to: F32 at 27 seconds with Cyan 0, Magenta 77 and Yellow 104
