Day 12

Friday 30th Sep 2011

10:00 Talk: Focus, Sharpness and Depth of Field

10:45 Workshop: Which included, setting up equipment (again), being introduced to the Horseman Large Format Camera, and the Electronic Flash system. Learnt about the use of the 'QuickDisc' and spent more time familiarising ourselves with the light meter and it's functions.

Teamed up with Ian Turner and also Ian Wisbey (Thank you Ian T for your assistance today, especially with the film processing with three of us in the darkroom!). Well done team for each completing the shots!

As a group two black and white proof shots were arranged and taken, along with six final colour images (two taken by each person- more than were required but we all wanted to use the camera and have our own negs for the printing exercise to come)

Film Used

B&W 125 ISO Large Format (Proof shots)
Kodak Colour 160 ISO Large Format (Finals)

Quickdisc: This simple tool enables the photographer to correct exposure settings to compenstate for the focal length of the camera (the wider apart the standards the further the light has to travel via the bellows and the more is lost). The disc is placed in shot after metering (via light meter) is complete, the measure is placed against the viewing screen on the camera, the diameter of the circle is noted against the scale and the readings denote compensation required. Camera settings can be adjusted (or lighting adjusted) until compensated required exposure reading is attained.
