Caroline Scott took this today to discuss documentary photo essays and specifically 'Life magazine', a publication I have already blogged about previously. Critiques of the genre by *Sebastiao Salgado (documentory photographer), Michelle Bogre (Documentary photographer, writer, intellectual property lawyer) and Martha Rosler (photographer and critic, http://www.martharosler.net/) were detailed and discussed.
'Documentoty photography as a public art' (Hariman & Lucaites), Barbie Zelizer were discussed.
'Photography as a part of activist action' was also highlighted
This type of work creates a public debate on what is acceptable within society.
