Today was mostly spent in LT1 Starting of with a lecture and film from Steffi which started at 10:00. During the lecture the following photographers work was highlighted;
Sebastian Copeland http://sebastiancopelandadventures.com/home
Edward Burtynsky (industrial images) http://www.edwardburtynsky.com/
Ed Kasi (Curse of the black gold) http://www.edkashi.com/
Andreas Gursky http://www.moma.org/collection/artist.php?artist_id=7806
Yao Lu
Robert Polidori (8x10 Chernobyl)
Steffi set us a task to research the idea of a fellow student that she selected at random. Once paired up (I was paired with Edwardus Poska) after the session we just confirmed each others ideas and once our work is complete (by Monday) we'll met up to share the info and enable the info to be posted to the blog. I'll post whatever Edwardus found out about my area of interest, he will post whatever I found out about his.
This was followed by a contextual lecture on 'Waste as Metaphor- Recycling Photography by Jean Wainwright (JW), 12:00hrs. This was the first time we'd had Jean and interestingly a couple of things I had an interest in popped up during the lecture. The following Photographer/Artists were discussed and their work was displayed;
John Stezaker http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/artists/john_stezaker.htm
Richard Prince http://www.richardprince.com/
Bloomber & Chanarin http://www.choppedliver.info/
Melinda Gibson http://www.melindagibson.blogspot.com/
Gerhard Richter http://www.gerhard-richter.com/
Gilbert & George http://www.withgilbertandgeorge.com/
Christian Botanski http://www.moma.org/collection/artist.php?artist_id=649
Andy Warhol http://www.warhol.org/
14:00 Despite what the timetable said we actually then returned again to LT1 this time to watch Vik Muniz's film 'Wasteland' that I'd blogged about a couple of days ago. After seeing clips on 'youtube', interviews and the images already, it was really interesting to see the entire DVD
The problem for me was a severe back pain which left me with pins and needles in my right hand, having had to spend so long in the uncomfortable seats in LT1!
